ABSENT PERIODS. What causes absent periods? Can a small fibroid be treated orally without going into surgery?

I am a woman of 36 years with a 12 year old child from a previous relationship. I have been married for 4 years and my periods were normal until last year february when I had periods 2 times in a space of 1 week.

From March, 2007 I havent had periods. I saw a gynae doc who prescribed a contraceptive pill for 3 months. But no period. In August 2007 I was then put on progesterone for 14 days, but still no periods.

2 weeks ago I did a scan which showed I had intramural fibroid which is 2.17cm x 2.64cm. Can this be the reason why I am not having periods? How do I get my periods back on track as I want to conceive with my current husband. I am not on any drugs, I dont smoke, I am not HIV positive. I am a secretary by profession and work 8 hours during the week days. I am 1.59cm tall and I weigh 51kgs. I used to weigh 55kg, but due to stress my weight is now 51kgs.

Is it normal to live without periods at my age? Please advise for I need your help urgenlty. Thank you.

What on earth did the doctor who diagnosed the fibroid suggest to you about this?

Your current menstrual cycle problems are the direct result of the fibroid, which is quite large (as fibroids go).

For heaven's sake, the fibroid is not going to disappear on its own. If you want your menstrual cycle to return to normal so you can have another baby, then you need to get the fibroid removed ASAP. It shouldn't be a big procedure - these days they use "key-hole" surgery .... go in in the morning and be out by just after lunch.

Do be aware though, that even after the fibroid is removed, it may take several months for your periods to return to normal.

Good luck.

Well it can be normal to live without a period if hormones are the reason but it isn't normal to live with a fibroid. Your period stopped because your body is trying to tell you something. Get it removed, they can do it lapriscopically.
