Is it possible to have herpes zoster and be hiv negative? Or is herpes zoster always connected to hiv positive

I am only 26 and came down with a case of herpes zoster. i heard that there can be other causes such as the fact that i was under high stress at work, on my period when the zoster broke out on my back, also sunbathing, and i had 2 root canals done all in the time frame that this broke out, is it true that these could have been factors? or am i just wishful thinking that i may still be healthy?

Herpes zoster has absolutely nothing to do with hiv! Yes, herpes zoster can be caused by stress and the sun. Hiv is the virus that causes AIDS. Hiv can only be transmitted through bodily fluids from an infected person through sex or sharing drug needles, or breastfeeding. HIV AND HERPES ZOSTER ARE TWO SEPERATE THINGS!

herpes zoster is related to the chicken pox virus. Not HIV! Its very true that the herpes zoster break out can be casued by stress. So unless you have some other unrelated reason to think it. you are still healthy.

You have shingles. Which is a virus similar to the chicken pox. It isn't connected to hiv. Go to the doctor to get more information. and treatment for it. It is painful because it is inflamation around the nerve endings. Relax.

Your condition has nothing to do with HIV.

Get to the doctor and get some medication for pain, you're going to need it when this starts to heal.

Herpes zoster (or simply zoster), commonly known as shingles, is a viral disease characterised by a painful skin rash with blisters in a limited area on one side of the body, often in a stripe. The initial infection with varicella zoster virus (VZV) causes the acute (short-lived) illness chickenpox, and generally occurs in children and young people. Once an episode of chickenpox has resolved, the virus is not eliminated from the body but can go on to cause shingles鈥攁n illness with very different symptoms鈥攐ften many years after the initial infection.

I won't say that you ARE or ARE NOT HIV positive or negative, however people with a weakened immunity are prone to developing zoster. A variety of illnesses and medical treatments can weaken a person's immunity. These include cancers, AIDS, treatment for cancer such as chemotherapy or radiation, drugs taken to prevent rejection of a transplanted organ, and cortisone when taken for a long time.

All can make someone susceptible.
While much less contagious than chicken pox, a person with zoster can transmit the virus by means of direct skin contact if blisters break. Newborns and those with decreased immunity are at the highest risk. If someone contracts the virus, the person develops chicken pox 鈥?not zoster. Shingles only occurs after a person develops chicken pox and the virus re-emerges in certain nerve cells.

Hope this helps. Good Luck!!!!
