Question for HIV positive people? Am I reacting normal?

I recently found out that a close relative is hiv positive. At first, I felt numb, and in shock. Then, I started feeling like crying, and have been having problems stopping the flow of tears. The relative is so young and such a beautiful person. They had a momentary lack in judgement and failed to protect themselves. I have been going through a whole range of emotions, and I need someone to tell me if I am normal. I can't get this off my mind. Here lately, I have been OBSESSED with finding out who did this to my loved one. But, they will not tell me the persons name. It's gotta be a good thing, because I really think they're gonna have to call 911 because somebody could end up DEAD. It's odd because the relative is acting like it's no big deal. They did have one big outburst the other day. But, that was it. I haven't been able to sleep, having feelings of PURE RAGE. My question is, why isn't the relative upset. And, why won't they tell me who did this horrible thing.

Your relative has probably been told by the doctor not to stress. Stressing and worrying is what causes people to die from hiv faster. Stress lowers the immune system and hiv is a virus that takes advantage of times when the immune system is low, so its very important that your relative doesnt stress out and trys to keep their mind off it and live life like they normally would. Hiv is not the end of the world anymore...MOST people today with hiv will die from other things like cancer or heart disease or natural causes. Majority of people with hiv can expect to live 24 years if they take their medicine......most cancer patients cant even expect to live that long. If your relative is single and is afraid about being alone which many people are, there are so many hiv postive websites and chat rooms for meeting other people with profile pictures and stuff. If this person got hiv from someone who knew they had it and didnt inform them they had it, your relative can sue them and should sue them to help get money to pay for some of the medication since the medicines can be very expensive. You need to inform you relative about how stress can progress it and they need to relax and show them this article that I posted below, it may help them relax a little about it. Anybody can get hiv because condoms break everyday and there are more lethal types out there (like subtype-e in Thailand) that are easier for heterosexuals to catch so this is a disease that affects everybody.

I'm sincerely sorry about your relative, but why is this in singles&dating?

It probably hasn't sunk in yet for your relative. This is a very sad and difficult thing to accept. He/she will be going through a roller coaster of emotions. My best advice to you is to be there for your relative and support her/him. Do not try to force him/her to tell you who "did this to them." The other person may not know he/she is infected. Just be supportive, he/she will need it. Good luck to your relative and your family.

Btw, I think you're acting normal. People whose loved ones are hurt in any way react in different ways and one way is to feel vengeful. But please don't act on this, there's a possibility that vengefulness might make things worse. Just be there for him/her.
