Is PEP (prophylaxis) a good step after unprotected sex? I am running out of time. |
I had sex with out any protection. I am worried to DEATH of contracting HIV. I consulted a doctor, and suggests that PEP can be adminstered only if the partner is confirmed HIV Positive. And this I can not know- ever. Is there any effect if i start the mediaction? If it is ever going to help me, I have to take the medication in the next 36 hours-at most. If I were as worried as you, I would tell the doctor that someone told you that the person you had sex with had it (just to get the medication). The medication will probably make you sick to the stomach. I would start ASAP if I were you. Its not worth the risk of becoming infected. The effectiveness of PEP is completely unknown since people do not know their status before taking it. You will have to take the meds for weeks, it is not a one time thing. |
