Can you build up an immunity to hiv in a hiv positive person after prolonged sexual contact with that person?

I know it probably sounds like a crazy question but my Dr. told me that if you didn't contact hiv from a hiv positive person in the initial stage that you probablly never would because you build up an immunity to it in that particular person after a certain period of sexual contact with him.

My Dr. told me that if you didn't get hiv from an hiv positive person in the initial period of having sex with him that most likely you never would because you build up an immunity to it in that particular person. I know you would think that I misunderstood him but I repeatedly asked him to make sure that clearly this was what he was saying.

It seems like you could, but I can't believe your doc told you that!! Have you been tested lately? Well, I imagine it's possible, but if I were you, I'd be careful...

Both the doctor and the person who said it can take 10 years to test positive are wrong. The longest it would take someone to test positive, ever, is 8 or 9 months. Thats like a 1 in a billion chance too that it would actually take that long. Your doctor is wrong as well. Theres no such thing as that, and if there is, scientists have not found anybody that is immune to it yet. Theres only been one recorded case of somebody being immune to it, but he did catch it, but somehow his body got rid of it on its own. They are testing him now to see why his body reacted differently but doctors dont know everything and they are usually wrong when talking about subjects that they did not go to school for. Your doctor obviously specializes in something other than hiv medicine. Lots of people have sex with hiv positive people and dont catch it.....because of luck. But the more you do it, the more your odds are that you will get it from them. Just like how not everybody that smokes cigarettes one time gets cancer, but the more you smoke, the more your odds are that you will get cancer later in life.

I can not believe that a doctor would say that!!! I think you need to see another doctor. Anytime you have unprotected sex with someone who is HIV+, you are putting yourself at risk of being infected. HIV is more easily spread (sexually) from men to women or from men to other men than from women to men. Also, HIV mutates (changes) alot, so even though you may not be infected by the strain of HIV that your partner has, it may change into another strain. Although transmission doesn't occur 100% of the time, there is no such thing as immunity to HIV. Why would you want to take the risk?

It doesn't work that way because HIV is a virus, and not a bacteria.

The virus hijacks the cells it attacks to effectively clone itself, and convert your cell to a virus cell.

Very nasty.

Sounds to me like your doctor doesn't know what he's talking about. Hard to believe a doctor said something like that.

Google HIV Disease Process to learn more.

omg! It can take up to 10 years for a person to test positive. They call it an unknown incubation period. The fluid exchange is all it takes. Some people have no symptoms and spread it unknowingly. You will never know, immediately!

Probably you heard the doctor wrong. it is impossible and there is nothing called immunity against HIV. You are always at risk of contracting HIV is you do not use protection.

Either your doctor didn't graduate or, he misunderstood you, or, you him. You can not build up an immunity to a person with HIV's you only increase your chances every time your "doing" it with them.

no there is no way to get immune to HIV. If you get HIV then you will most likely die.

I don't think I'd trust in that if it were me...you do what you want though ...
