Relative with HIV bled on my towel...? |
I had a relative staying with us who left yesterday. In gathering the laundry he used while with us I noticed some blood on the towel he had been using. He is HIV positive. I do not know that much about HIV and do not want my husband to see numerous searches on it all kinds since it is his family member. Anyways, I have to small kids in the house so I'm a little paranoid. How long does HIV live outside the body? Are there any precautions I should be taking right now? Thanks so much for your help & advice!! HIV does not survive outside of its host for very long at all. It takes direct exchange of bodily fluids to transmit the disease (such as getting blood in an open cut, or as with sexual transmission or blood transfusion). Wash the towel, it's fine. Hiv can't live long outside of the body. U could wash the towel! OMG, i totallly understand....u could wash the towel b/c there's nothing worng with it....but if it was me, I'd throw it away... |
