Nelson Mandela doesnt deserve his legendary status.?

What did Nelson Mandela do to deserve his legendary status? Yes he did go to prison for 27 years, but he hasnt done much to the apartheid system itself.

he did not have anything to do with the ending of apartheid, that was President Van Klerk. When Mandela became President he went on an international campaign to be seen as a wonderful world statesman whilst he did nothing in South Africa to progress his own people, crime spiralled out of control, witch doctors said that raping babies would cure aids so baby rape became a major crime and Mandela refused to condemn it, poverty amongst the indiginous black population worsened considerably under his regime. He refused to acknowledge that aids was a problem, now one in every six babies born to women under the age 27 are HIV positive.

Nelson Mandela spent 27 years in prison protesting against you racists, even the United States had to acknowledged that South Africa's racist Apartheid policies were wrong.

Just as slavery ended with the white man taking it on The Apartheid system ended with the white nations standing up to it But they prefer to look to one man as their hero

edit- Ya see, In South Africa had a real Racist problem. Although Black Africans outnumbered the white ones, they had no citizenship. Thier votes did not count and blacks could not hold higher offices.

for better or for worse, Blacks were the majority. they desearved to be able to vote. They didn't need to be babied. They needed a chance to develop their own leaders.

yes he did not acknowlege AIDS at the time. A lot of stupid science ran rampant during the 80's

edit- He has since spoken out about AIDS and even faulted himself for not taking the AIDS problem as seriously as he should have. If he had been out during the outbreak he probably would have known more about the disease.

He fought the racist government and ( after he first failed) Won. Became the First Back President of S. Africa. Addressed civil Rights issues that others would not dare to touch.
