Why should HIV infected Health-Care Workers not have the same privacy rights as other hospital employees?

I'm currently working in the medical field, I tested positive 6 yrs ago, I read this article.
http://www.medsocial.com/blog.aspx?bloga...

in australia the privacy act doesnt allow for workers or patients to know if you are infected or not, i work in disability and we were told that a patient in the area was HIV Positive but not which patient or even which town, so any of us could be working with the patient, we were told to treat any and all bodily fluids as contaminated and to have regular tests. i agree and disagree with you.

Because if you carry something that serious, people who you associate closely with have the right to know.

You must think about this actually,it is a deadly disease, put the shoe on the other foot, now how would you feel? Yep.

Because there was once a case where a hiv positive dentist gave his patient hiv.

Hmm.. thats a difficult one to argue for because in reality the risk of infection in the profession is high.

Its ESSENTIAL for healthcare workers to be tested and if theyre HIV positive then much of their activities in the hospital need to be monitored such as who theyve come into contact with.

If this werent the case then a simple injury such as a needle prick may lead to many other uninfected individuals to become infected with HIV.

It's not unfair in an ethical sense. It needs to be done to protect society from further infections.

i agree with you. when u go to the hospital or call an ambulance u should get what is there whether it would be sum1 with herpes, cancer, HIV, or is of a different nationality or sexual orientation. HIV can be prevented of transfer by simple universal precautions and covering open wounds.
