Why is their such an AIDS epidemic?

Don't they know that using a condom will HELP prevent against disease.

Why do they have sex with multiple partners and prostitute themselves?

Why do they continue to have babies when they know they're HIV positive?

No, they literally do not know. They have some pretty primitive medicine men who have been promoting such bizarre concepts as the way to cure AIDS is to have sex with a virgin. Since this does not work, they go on to another virgin, and infect her, too. And so it goes.

Much of Africa does not have modern medical services at all. Also many believe the modern is white man's invasion, and they are suspicious of it. What they need are more well-educated black doctors who can separate their suspicions of whites from their suspicion of modern medicine, and hopefully conquer the latter.

Don't you know that there is a different culture in Africa than in the USA, one that doesn't so openly embrace sex and one that lacks the commercialism and impact of condoms abroad?

Don't you know that if people don't know that they have HIV, AIDS, or any STD that they will spread it unknowingly?

Don't you know the average life span for persons with AIDS is now about 33 years old and there are medicines such that a mother with AIDS won't pass it on to her children?

And don't you know that if "modern" countries (ie. the big eight nations) tried to help to start a contraceptive and prophylactic trend similar to (that in their own countries) in Africa the AIDS epidemic would surely decrease?!

Nothing's wrong with Africa- except of course it continously gets the short end of the stick. People need to realize that if we start treating the areas as communities and not refugee camps (and I know about the genocides in Rwanda and Darfur) suitable governments might actually be built and for once Black people themsleves wouldn't look down on their own "homeland."

Let me point a few things: prostitution is everywhere, if you have no other source of income what can you do? There is a lack of education and there have been witch doctors promoting ludicrous "cures". Much of India still does not even know what AIDS is so it is not hard to believe that a significant portion of Africa is the same. It is estimated that 99% of the infected in Africa do not know that they are.

There is no case of affording or not affordig a condom.They are given freely to those who wish.Infact they are everywhere.It is a case of educating the people of danger of not using the condoms especially to those with multiple partners.Sins have driven people to their deaths thro this deadly sydrome.Faithfullness to your partners and return to God will save the world and not Africa alone.Look at how aids is ravaging gay community in the world.Get back to God and this calamity will be conquered.This is God's will and i do not care being reported.Iam just passing God's message.

Nothing is wrong with Africa. Americans and others countries view Africa as a place full of poor villages where everyone is affected with AIDS/HIV. This is party true but what people don't realize that there are nice neighborhoods and places in Africa too. Africa is a beautiful land with exotic wildlife and different cultures. Some people even go there on vacation. People think Africans speak some foreign tongue clicking language when most of them speak English and French. There is NOTHING wrong with the Motherland. But if you people think that just because of a certain disease that Africa is some poisoned land, think again. I believe every society is struggling with a disease like Cancer in the U.S.

To answers your question a lot of countries in Africa are in poverty and AIDS is passed on through rape. Everywhere in the world there are prostitutes.
