Should I have walked out of the dentist's office like that ? |
I was referred by my dentist to an endodontist. When I arrived, they handed me what looked like a minature laptop. The computer screen showed 11 pages one after another like a application. This they had in place of a written application.I tried to punch in the info-insurance,medical history, personal data, the keyboard did not respond properly to my electronic pen[wired to the computer]the whole experience was like an electronic voting machine. When I answer the question: are you HIV positive,NO.....the computer switched back to YES. Well that's all it took to end the application process for me,I'm not signing a form on some computer that's rigged to answer any way it wants,so,I walked up to the desk no one was there,it was there lunch hour and they were just squeezing me into there daily schedule anyway.I left the Piece Of S..... and walked away unseen,HEEHEEHEEEEEE.Footnote: they never bothered to call me I just figured if you don't want to be there they don't care if you are either. No, you shouldn't have walked out. OK, the computer was being a piece of crap, that's no body's fault. Are you mad because there was no one there to help you? If so, you said so yourself that they squeezed you in AND it was they're lunch hour. Are you mad because they were eating lunch? Of course they're not going to call you!! YOU left!!! They aren't going to come searching for you. Sorry, but you have no one to blame but yourself. I hate those computers, too. I would have thrown it in the trash, instead! Wow, I am totally with you there. That is the rudest thing I have ever heard. All doctors offices should have everything handwritten for the file as backup. I think you did the absolute right thing. Maybe you should have followed up and let them know why or even hunted around, but if you were that upset over it, I def. don't blame you. i think you had the right to do that because skipping a dentist appoinment isnt as serious of course as other appoinments. and yeah thats ridiculous that the computer was screwing up your answers like that and in a way that could have messed up your more important information. The thing I'm wondering is if they were asking if you had an HIV test or if the question was asking if you'd submit to one. With oral surgery the risk of blood and gloved hands with a leak make it high priority to know beforehand. That issue might have triggered the automatic check. If you won't submit, then they won't treat, etc. If it went like you described, I'd have walked out too, especially since they didn't even leave a skeleton crew on the phones during lunch. This is utterly unethical, and frankly... you should report this to the American Dental Association. That is madness. Having read your other questions, I have concluded that the dental office in question is way better off without you. They wouldn't have wanted to put their hands in your nasty mouth anyway. |
