Is "night shift" going to be part of "General Hospital"?

I have seen previews on SoapNet for the new spin off of GH: Night Shift. I have seen Robin and Patrick and Jason on the previews and probably some other characters. Will whatever happens to them on this show affect what happens to them on General Hospital? I have seen a clip where Patrick gets hurt and both him and Robin risk patients' lives because of their HIV-positive status.
Will these characters fade out of GH eventually...or will they be on both shows, intertwined?

General Hospital: Night Shift is a prime time soap opera that will air on SOAPnet during Summer 2007 for a limited 13 episode run.

As the second spin-off to General Hospital, Night Shift will delve deeper into the relationships, friendships and medical cases seen at the hospital. Night Shift's stories will be self-contained and wrap up during each one-hour episode. Characters will be selected from General Hospital and will be mostly comprised of younger characters with ties to core families. It has also been stated that Night Shift's storylines will not intersect with General Hospital's. Therefore characters who are on both Night Shift and General Hospital could be in completely different situations on each show.

SOAPnet goes after hours with our favorite General Hospital characters and some new faces on the network's first one-hour original primetime drama. This also is the first time a soap opera has shown more than what we get to see in daytime. The show's storylines are funnier and edgier than General Hospitals, and occur during the night shift at the hospital. However, the two shows storylines do not intersect, on Night Shift they wrap up by the end of each episode.

The show is executive produced by Jill Farren Phelps and written by Robert Guza Jr. The show's production began on Friday, April 20th and 13 episodes have been picked up. The first will air on July 12th

my best friend says that nothing major is going to happen on nightshift cause not everyone can watch it. If something minor does happens on it, it should be on general hospital, but it won't affect it. I have no idea what the question is about, but my friend seen like every episode basically. she answered this, not me. have a good day!

If you go to soapnet.com, they tell you all about it.

Right now, it stands at 13 episodes. They will have some characters inter act with each other from GH - plus some new ones.

They have promised that what goes on NS, will not effect the story lines on GH and vise versa.

The GH characters are not leaving the show - they are pulling double duty, and the taping is done on Fridays (when GH is not being taped).

no its a spin off that will deal with the hospital. like robin and patrick and epiphany.
on general hospital this week they introduced 3 new female medical interns and i'm assuming they will be on night shift.
