But what happens in the General election when it becomes public knowledge that Mike Huckabee is an oil lobbyist?

What happens when the public fully understands his part in stealing 8.5 billion from Medicare to give to "The Lord's Ranch" in Arkansas?

What happens when it is revealed that he wanted to quarantine people who are HIV positive and that he called environmentalists "wackos who want to tell you what kind of deodorant to wear"?

You are pretty much on target. Huckabee may very well get the GOP nomination. I actually hope e does--because, for the reasons you mention and more like tem, the Democrats will tear him to shreds. It would guarantee a Democratic landslide.

You did make one mistake, however--Huckabee DOES NOT represent mainstream Christains--only the "evangelicals" of the religious right. That's a minority of Christians--and very much NOT part of the mainstream.

I'm not sure. In a general, Huckabee has more appeal to Independents than the Romney types.

That being said, a section of the Republican base will not turn out to vote for Huckabee. So you may be right.

No, I don't think he can win the general. But he has a little of the same kind of appeal of a Jimmy Carter.

But whereas with Jimmy Carter is a man of brilliant intensity and integrity. Mike Huckabee really doesn't have any substance whatsoever. He can tell great stories and he gives a good speech but he's really, really similar to GW Bush although I don't think he is as corrupt, at least not yet.

No, because Mike Huckabee is a straight talker. He also comes across as one of "us". He runs on his record and defends it.

I believe he stands more than a good chance in the national election, especially if either Obama or Clinton is the Dem nominee.

And that's what concerns me. Huckabee is just more of the same kind of Bible Thumper put up by the GOP for the past 25 years.

Its good for neither. He is a right wing, religious conservative and he will not fly with mainstream America. If he gets the nomination that will ensure a Democratic win in November.
