Need help with my friend's vet bill.?

I took my my best friend in to my local vet to see what was wrong with him. My dog has been very ill for the past two months but this time, the vet bill was too much for me and when I went up to talk to the receptionist I had but $15.64 in my pocket.
The bill was over $251. They kept my dog and said they could not release him and the medication until I paid the bill.
My heart stuck in my throat as I cringed of the thought of my best friend not coming home with me.
I have had Bubba since he was two months old and he is my best friend. I am HIV positive and he is the only one that has never left my side, talked bad about me, loves me truly unconditionally. He is my best friend.
I cried all last night and miss him dearly worried that I might never get him back. I was not even offered a payment plan.
But since Bubba is at the veterinarian's office I am being charged for boarding which is only increasing the bill by the day.
Please, someone help me or with info on how to get help.

thats just plain wrong.ofcourse they dont wan to release him they are charging you for boarding.and more money for them.heartless they should of offered you a payment plan all places are scams.i would of asked an estimate and then looked for other vet clinics to see if they were cheaper.or asked a relative to loan you the money or an advance in your paycheck places do that now a days.imom will not help you because they wont approve people who already have pets at the vet and need to be released carecredit if you dont have good credit you will not be approved.

Sorry but I have to say this...why wouldn't you ask the vet first how much it would cost before you took your dog to the vet? Especially if you knew you only had $15. And from what you wrote it sound like you were at the vets before so you must have known that they don't have payment plans and what your charged before. Just because they are a vet and help animals doesn't mean they have to give services away. A vet is like any other dr. or business. They can not always give out free services, they have supplies to buy, employees to pay, rents, mortgages, bills etc. Would you go to the grocery store and think the owner give you $200 of food for $15 or a payment plan. This vet may have done this in the past but may have had so many nonpayers that he had to stop. I don't think anyone here would want to work a day and not be paid for it, or have to wait for your money.

ONE OTHER POINT-There are scammers out there that have written for help and ask for money to be sent to them...Don't send money! If you truly need help with your vet bill go to your church, community center, friends, family SPCA etc.
