Black People and Aids South Africa?

MJ and JD stated in a previous question of mine about aids that almost 98% of all HIV positive cases are Blacks and the same with the deaths. Can anyone explain that to me, why are all the Blacks dying of the disease and only a few Whites. Do us Whites have a stronger immune system than them or is there no real explanation? Poverty does not cause AIDS, unprotected sex does ......even a little child knows that, so why is the disease still spreading?

Yes MJ I hear Botswana gives absolutely no anti viral drugs for its HIV infected, they are dying by their thousands. Whole Cattle Posts are disappearing

Infidelity amongst Blacks with their polygamous wives and their genetic make up which makes them more inclined to be continuously horny. And the usual lack of intelligence coupled with a mistrust for conventional Medecines and more likely to believe the Witchdoctor.

By the time the AIDS message got to rural communities the damage was done. Remember incubation can be up to 10 years. There was also a problem with traditional culture. It is a bit hard to promote birth control when people need to have lots of children for when they are elderly. AIDS was first discovered in the early 80's (if you believe that) and the old Nat government did very little in the way of prevention or education, again the measures arrived too late.
AIDS kills poor Africans, I often wonder if African governments do not really care as it is a convenient and legal way of disposing of the bottom end of society that no one wants and is a burden and also curbing the population explosion. This is morally bankrupt but I don't trust any government. India and China are also AIDS timebombs and they also suffer from overpopulation.

The majority of Native African people are not educated on... well, much at all.

The fact that they have don't know much about the virus or protective sex is a huge factor with the AIDs issue in South Africa.
Instinct takes over and many of them will have sex without a second thought.

This is not the case with everyone... Just a huge percentage. Rape is also contributing to the spread of the virus

Perhaps because white South Africans comprise less than 10% of the population.

AIDS was discovered in the early eighties in America, in South Africa there has been no recorded death from aids, so isn't it a little unfair to suggest that Natsdid nothing, what could they do, noone in the world knew what aids was, or how to prevent it ? so your inuendo that the Nats saw this as another opportunity to murder blacks is a little indigestable, a bit of the old propaganda creeping in.
It is not just poor people that die from aids Freddy Mercury died from aids and how poor is he, what about peter mkaba he died of aids and he was also filthy rich and a lot of middle-class Africans are walking around with the infection and are waiting to drop, it is not just for poor people.
But you are right about one thing MJ the African leaders do seem to be hanging their poor people out to dry, I wonder how many millions of people are goimg to die, in Africa, because of it?
Quite sick really.

It is simple, black men refuse to use condoms. Even though they are freely available at all hospitals etc. We used to get black ladies buying condoms for woman because they did not want their husbands to know they are trying to protect themselves. Did you know that you get condoms for woman, well they the African woman bought them by the dozen and they told me should their husband know they are using them they will hit them.I can assure you that the majority of black people in SA are aware they can contact Aids by sleeping around, there are huge signs in most of the rural areas, all over the place, the district nurses that drive their 4by4'rs into the most rural of places leave boxes of condoms for them to use, their wifes and girlfriends all told me the same thing, they the men are just not interested, even the kids at school know about it so their is no excuse for anyone anymore.

Living in cities, it's easy to assume that the same information is available all over the country. I read the other day that in some rural areas, people think CONDOMS spread Aids!

So while it's certainly true that unprotected sex (or contact with infected blood) is the only direct cause of Aids, the socio-economic situation creates the dry grass for the fire to spread. Some ways are:

- lack of education
- lack of options: although condoms are available from family planning clinics, not all communities have access to the clinics. Plus, in a small community it can be very embarrassing asking for condoms from someone who lives down the road. Wives left behind in the rural areas can be completely faithful, but be infected by their husband when he comes home.
- perceived lack of options: many young girls will take on rich 'sugardaddies' in an attempt to get their school fees paid and money for rent (as well as for fancy stuff like cellphones and brand-name clothing, which we can't blame them for wanting when adverts are constantly telling them they're inadequate if they don't have them). The sad thing is that they think they're looking after their future by staying in school, and end up with no future at all. Because the disease is so prevalent, many assume that they are bound to catch it at some point, and become apathetic. This is particularly true if they feel like they have no way to make a success of their life: if they are unemployed, badly educated, too poor to invest in their future or just don't know how to do so.
- lack of sexual bargaining power of women: the migrant labour system created a situation where it is normal for men to have one woman back home and another in the city. Both depend on him for support, and are not in a position to negotiate condom use: specially in the city, women are seen as replaceable. Even when men have been unfaithful themselves, they often assume that the woman is unfaithful if she asks to use condoms. Especially when there are children involved, women will often comply with a man's wishes to keep his support for the children. And because of their biology, women are three times more likely to be infected in a single sexual encounter than men are.
- denial: this doesn't just apply to black people. But many people find the prospect of Aids so frightening that, ironically, they prefer not to think about it at all than to protect themselves. A friend in England told me that the same thing goes on there: people will have lots of one-night stands, and just hope that they don't catch anything. She thinks that when it starts testing on a large scale, England is in for a surprise in Aids stats.

But there is an upside to this. If the problem is a perceived lack of options, we can work to change that. We can make planning for the future (the kinds of options available and how to pursue them) a compulsory part of the matric syllabis, and make loan schemes such as Umsobomvu Youth Fund and the Development Bank more well-known, so that people have the funds to start up businesses and change their lives. If the problem is women's weak social status, prevention targeted at women specifically can drastically lower infection rates. There's a microbicide currently working very well in tests - although not quite as effective as condoms, it can be applied without the man's knowledge, thereby returning control of her body to the woman.

Duisendpoot, just how do you know that black men refuse to use condoms?

I think one contributor was sort of right in saying there is a majority of blacks, thus the high numbers. Again, in rural areas... not a lot of these people are well educated about AIDS. There was once a story about hostel men in natal washing comdoms and re using them. Now tell me a person like that knows about AIDS... they mean well, but arent going about it the right way...

Also, a friend (white) once told me that white people arent vocal about these things like black people are. She asked why each time a black person gets the disease they have to act like some aids ambassador and get pity from the world? I tend to agree a bit with her on that. Also, she said most of her friends "around surburb of Cyreldine" were often shipped off overseas if they fell pregnant. I dont know how much of this is true... would like any input from contributor (thanks)

Unfortunately I do not know, I HAVE THE SAME QUESTION AS YOU LISE,, THANK YOU FOR ASKING, I will just sit back and observe the comments.....
