When should I ask STD status on dates?

I am a gay male and I'm just curious, but when can I ask someone if they have any STDs? I don't want to waste too much time; I've last met a guy where after meeting for a few days, they were HIV positive. I have nothing against POZ people, but I prefer not to date any STD poz people. Is there a dating rule on this topic?

Depends on when and where you meet them and what the realistic chances are that you might want to have sex.

Chance encounters it should discussed right off the bat. If its likely to be a friendship first with sex a possibility then after you get to know them beyond the name and age. Online meetings it should be asked before numbers are exchanged or first meeting.

Just because the tested negative the last time (whether last week or yesterday) assume there is still a risk and play safe. Don't let embarrassment or etiquette get in the way of safety. You can ask in a non judgmental way. If they act offended or balk or haven't been tested on a regular basis, then its time to wish them well and move on.

When you decide this person may be bedable. I usually bring up stds and attitudes on the first date. I don't listen much to results but the attitude towards testing and knowing...you can always lie about results.

I say immediately...who want to be with someone who isn't comfortable with protecting themselves?

Hurry up and ask, so you can hurry up and have sex. You don't want to wait too long.

I use the third day rule. First day it is kind of rude to ask, second you are a little more comfortable around the person. The third date is when the question needs to be ask, along with a bunch of other questions. Like do you do drugs? (I am straight) are you gay?

This is your life and we only get one healthy life thats it. I would say if your dating someone after a few dates so as not to offend him or her I would put it all out on the table.Let them know you respect them and that your a very cautious person before things go further not to offend them but you would like to know that they are safe too.

It was one of the first things I used to ask people. If they got offended easily by it then oh well, they're probably not for me anyway. When it comes to your health, you have the right to know and I don't think there should be a "rule." Just ask them.

whenever u feel as though u might wanna sleep with that person.

Hmmm, "not waste time"? Perhaps that should be the first thing out of your mouth so they don't waste their time getting to know YOU.
There have been studies of couples that were of mixed status and after many years the majority of them were both still together and their status had not changed. When you combine that with the newer drugs that suppress the virus in their system, there is no reason why a "mixed" couple cannot be every bit as happy and successful as one where they are both negative.
Meeting someone that says they are negative does not mean they are nor does it mean they will remain that way.

As long as it is BEFORE sex and not withint he first 24 hours I say you are fine!

ask as soon as you decide your going to want to have sex with the person.

when its that time and you feel it in your heart...dont wait til the night off...go to dr. with him get the papers
