Can i catch FIV from cats?

My cat has been diagnosed with FIV... the feline form of HIV, it has since scratched me and im worried i will be HIV positive.

The virus is not capable of crossing over into human cells. It does not have the right proteins to latch onto the glycoproteins on the surface membrane of human cells. (which are very different from those of cats).

Feline immunodefeciency virus is very contagious for other cats. Isolaton would be a measure that could be taken but it is not pracical in your mother's case. I seem to remember a vaccine for Report It

F.I.V. was developed several years ago. I would, normally, do the search for you but I'm currently involved in heavy patent litigation for a large client and my time is limited. So, try a google search. (& it's old enough news that wikipedia may have it by now, so try them also.)

Thats funny. FIV is not communicable to humans, because it is a FELINE imunodefficiency virus, not HUMAN. In short, you can't get HIV from a cat.
