Why does your CD8 count go up when your HIV positive. I know why your CD4 drops. Be as specific as possible please. The activation of CD8+ cells is stimulated by recognition of class 1MHC- associated peptides, and requires costimulation and/or helper T cells. CD8+ T cells recognizepeptides that may be produced from cytoplasmic proteins in any nucleated cell. If this cell happens to be a professional APC that contains a cytoplasmic microbe or has phagocytosed another infected cell, the APC provides the second siginals needed for T cell activation. If, however the antigen is presented by a cell that does not express costimulators, CD4+ helper T cells that are activated in the vicinity may produce cytokinins or other molecules that can then activate CD8+ T cells. Thus , the clonal expansion of CD8+ T cells and their differentiation into effector CTLs may be dependent on help provided by CD4+ T cells. This is a likely explanation for the defects in CTL responses to many viruses that are seen in patients infected with HIV, which kills CD4+ but not CD8+ T cells. |
