Insurance +HIV?

Hi everyone,I'm in a foreign country and pregnant. i'm working for a company and my insurance was not given early to me. So during my first months of pregnacy, i went for my check up and i was told that i was HIV positive. some few weeks later my company handed my insurance to me. Now i'm affraid to go to the hospital where i'm insured for fear that may be the hospital might expose my health condition to my company and will loose my job. and the hospital where i am following up is becoming more and more expensive . I can't even meet up with those expenses since i have to follow up an anti-HIV treament which is damn expensive and antinatal care in this private hospital.Do you thing if i go to the my insured hospital they will expose my condition?

Im sorry to hear this, but dont let it take over you! That company can not expose your info, and if so I would sue them and then you wouldn't have to worry about having enough money! Good Luck and God bless!

I can't speak for a foreign country, but in the US they can't do that....

It depends on the country.

Sorry about the diagnosis. That sucks. There is a lot of evidence that you can have a healthy (non HIV+) baby with the right drugs, so you need to let them know so they can do the treatments.

I would hide your status as best you can. You might not show any symptoms for 10 years anyway, and by then there might be some really good treatments.

Good luck!

I would have the HIV test repeated to make certain it's not a false positive. If it's confirmed that you are indeed HIV+, then you need to be treated, as does the baby for prenatal care etc. anyways, depending on the country , I would imagine your diagnosis is protected. The insurance company will know, but the company u work for doesn't need to know. good luck.

You should be worrying about your child rather than your insurance.

Here in Australia, you can get free medical treatment at a sexual health clinic. Which country are you in? Perhaps you should inform your HR Manager and advise that you were employed at the company but they failed to give you your insurance straight away. You were clearly not aware of your status before you obtained insurance.

One thing I don't explain is that your insurance company would have asked you for blood tests to determine any STD's etc - did this not happen?

Firstly, you cannot lose your job because that will be discrimination. The hospital cannot disclose your personal information.

I am also HIV+ and my daughter was born via caesar and she is negative. You need to get on meds asap to get your viral load down, you will also need to have a caesarian and your child will be on AZT for 6 weeks after birth. You also aren't allowed to breast feed.

I really wish you and your baby the best in life and in health.
