Could i be at the risk of hiv if i was positive for chlamydia?

well i took the cure for the chlamydia and thats been a week from now... but now i freaking out about hiv.....and it takes two weeks for the results for the hiv test

YES, if you contract chlamydia, you ARE at risk of contracting HIV. Many people have already pointed out that to get chlamydia, you must have had unprotected sexual contact. And yes, both chlamydia and HIV are transmitted this way.

HOWEVER, I must correct sous_lepontmirabeau. Having chlamydia **DOES** make you **MORE SUSCEPTIBLE** to HIV infection (as well as other concomitant infections).

The reason for the extra susceptibility is this: chlamydia and gonorrhea infections cause inflammation at the site of infection. During inflammatory response, immune cells are attracted to the region. Moreover, tissues become more permeable to cell movement, so those immune cells can travel more easily and do their work. Problem is, with extra permeability, viruses like HIV can get in easier. And when there are a lot of immune cells (like T-CELLS!!!) nearby, HIV can jump right in and infect a whole bunch of cells at once.

So yes, HIV is a definite risk if you already have chlamydia.

ADDENDUM FOR BOBBIE:

"but my partner wasnt positive for hiv???? is that still a huge risk ... should i worry about hiv right now???????"

The depends on when your partner's last test was. Has your partner tested negative in the last six months? If his last HIV test was more than 6 months ago, he needs to be tested again. In your case, you need to worry because you made a mistake. If you did not get tested for HIV at your last clinic visit, go get tested. Then get tested against 6 months after that. If you show negative both times, you are HIV-free.

"well i got treat for it a week ago and they saidit should be out of my system is that correct????"

ASSUMING you were abstinent for the entire week you under treatment, yes, you will have been cured of chlamydia. However, if you had unprotected sex during your infection, you probably got reinfected and will need to be retested and treated again.

Anytime you have unprotected sex you are at risk of HIV which if you have gotten chlamydia you have been having unproteced sex. Never, never, never have sexual intercourse with out a condom. Plus get tested. Hello... condom, condom, condom or are you stupid with a death wish.

The reason you would be at risk for HIV is because you had unprotected sex not because you were diagnosed with chlamydia. you should get tested because if you are having unprotected sex you are always at risk.

1) You can get an STD and not have HIV, but yes, you are at a higher risk of getting HIV if you already have an STD. Get an HIV test. It will probably be negative, and then you will have some peace of mind.

2) Use condoms

Chlamydia does not make you more susceptible to HIV, no. If you had unprotected sex, however, you definitely put yourself at risk for contracting HIV.

The real question here is why aren't you using protection? Of course, if you did use protection and got chlamydia anyway, I feel bad for you. You pick bad people to have sex with.

All the ladies here are completely correct! Get tested to clear your mind. Then, wait 6 months (long *** time to me by the way) and get tested again just to make sure. Did I mention that you aren't suppose to have sex AT ALL during that six month period? Yeah, Long *** time to wait. But, in the end, you will know for certain what your status is, so be safe and use a condom!

Yes.

If your partner was negative, you will also be negative.

Chlamydia

What is chlamydia?
Chlamydia is a bacterial infection that is spread by sexual contact. It is the most common sexually transmitted disease (STD) in the United States. Chlamydia infects the urethra in men and the urethra, cervix, or upper reproductive organs (or all three) in women. Chlamydia can also infect the rectum and the surface of the eyes and lining of the eyelids (conjunctiva).

An infected mother can pass chlamydia to her baby at birth. Between 50% and 75% of babies born to mothers with chlamydia get the infection. They may have it in the eyes, back of the throat, rectum, or vagina. Between 30% and 40% of babies infected with chlamydia at birth develop complications, such as conjunctivitis or pneumonia. 1

Having chlamydia increases your risk of becoming infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) if you are exposed to HIV.1

Risk factors for getting chlamydia include:

Having unprotected sex (not using condoms).
Having more than one sex partner.
Having a high-risk partner or partners. This includes people who have more than one sex partner or sex partners who have chlamydia.
Starting sexual activity before age 18.
