How can i get social security or income suppliment if i am hiv positive and not able to work full time.?

If I were you I would get a case worker to start. These are available to you in your communtiy free of charge. Contact the AIDS services program in you r community. It is very overwhelming dealing with an illness like HIV. This person can help you alot. They can coordinate appointments, disseminate information to you, help you apply for benefits and keep track of all these things for you. Its alot to have on your plate. They have experience dealing with these types of things everyday. They generally help you to fill out the paperwork required for the social security disability. If it comes down to it and they deny you hire an attorney to get benefits. I bet the case worker you get probably knows other sources of help available to you as well. Call the United Way (211?in austin anyway) if you cannot locate a case worker program. They should tell you where to find one.

Go to your local social security office.. you also may be able to do it over the phone.

Social Security Disability is darn hard to get. I had to fight to get it for 8 years, until I got an advocate and it still took a year and a half after that.

You need an advocate, mine was from an organization that assists the handicap. Those folks and legal aid for the poor will do it for nothing. A regular lawyer will charge a portion of the back payments they give you when you finally win. They have to win your case or they do not get paid. No upfront money is required.

The process is complicated and geared to make you lose, so you really need to get an advocate.

You must first apply for it then go from there . I was told that 80% of adults are denied social security on the try . so If this happens to you just appeal the decision . There is a group of lawyers in most states who will represent you after you've been denied , the SS office can give you the lawyer's info if you ask , they wont volunteer this info

There are also sites that will help with free or reduced medications such as www.freemedicine.com and search for free prescription assistance. I am not sure of what medications are covered, but worth looking into. God Bless
