Should Australia ban immigrants who are HIV positive? Why or why not?

Ya-sai, actually, if you want to get your residency, you have to have a blood test done by a doctor approved by the US immigration authorities. The results are then placed into an envelope without the person applying for residency seeing the results, then sealed. The seal has to remain unbroken when the envelope is given to immigration. It's pretty stringent.
I've just been curious as to what other people think of this ban... I found out that the US has one of the strictest policies on HIV positive immigrants.

I think it's a GREAT idea!

People must remember that it is a PRIVILEGE to emigrate to a country like US or Australia, not a right.

So all countries like us should be able to pick and choose who enters our borders.

So why let people in with an infectious disease?

How are they going to know that kind of information from would-be immigrants. They'll give HIV tests to all coming immigrants? I don't think so.

I think any country has the right to ban whom ever they please.

sure, why not? i wouldn't want someone waltzing into my country with a deadly infectious disease. i can't imagine the reaction if my government even allowed someone with avian flu into our country. and most people with aids have it because of their own irresponsibility. we need to do more to stop this disease, even if it means isolating them in one country.

Banned them, why would you want to further contaminate you countrymen and woman. No offense to those who have Aids or any STD but some contaminated people sleep anywhere knowing that they have the disease.
