Difference between hiv positive and hiv negative?

If your HIV positive, then you have HIV.

If your HIV negative, then you DON'T have HIV.

It's tricky, I know...

Being HIV Postive means that you have the disease and vice versa.

HIV positive means that a blood test has detected the antibodies for HIV that your body has made in its response to the HIV virus in your blood. You now can pass HIV on to other people.

HIV negative means that no antibodies/virus has been detected in the blood tests.

If a person was exposed to HIV, multiple tests may need to be done to determine that they are truely HIV negative because eventhough a person can become HIV positive as early as 3 weeks after exposure, it may take up to 6 months before the HIV antibiodies develop.

HIV positive means you have it.

HIV negative means you don't have HIV.
