If your hiv positive and have unsafe sex with another hiv positive person, are there any real risks?

I've heard some say that you can transmit a new and different strain to the other positive person, but some say there is no risk.

Yes, there is a risk if the other partner is infected with a different variant or subtype of the virus. The two variants are HIV-1 and HIV-2. HIV-2, however, is not very common outside of West Africa. Each virus also has different subtypes that can infect simultaneously. It is not known how common infection with multiple strains at the same time is. Also, since HIV positive patients have weakened immune systems, there is the possibility that they have other communicable diseases.

I would think you answered your own question. Unsafe sex with ANY partner could be risky!

Az the other person is already infected with HIV then there is no risk. However there are other diseases that can be transmitted sexually which would put you at risk.
