What happens if your HIV positive? |
Im not, im just wondering what happens. At school they always talk about STDS and everything, and i think it might make me scared to have sex, hahaha. I dont get it. If you are HIV positive, does it mean you cant have sex, or your at a greater risk of getting a STD? If a person is HIV positive they will need to use condoms to prevent spreading it during sex for the remainder of their life. There is yet to be a cure for HIV..so if you have it you will die sooner then normal. But with the expensive drugs you will live a bit longer. And you can still have sex, but you will passs it on to the mate. so dont. If you have HIV you are at risk of passing it on to your partners and infecting other people. If you're HIV positive you need to tell any potential sexual partners and if by sheer luck someone still wants to have sex w/you you need to use a condom. Usually HIV develops into full blown aids, not always, but a lot of times it will. Medication is EXTREMELY expensive. I'm talking millions of dollars (good luck getting health insurance). And having to live w/such a horrible painful disease won't be fun. I'm a sexuality major and have studied stds in depth. If you're going to have sex make sure you use protection and get tested for stds regularly. HIV is an STD. It stands for Human immunodeficiency virus; in other words, the virus attacks human immune systems making the individual more prone to life-threatening infections. The big deal with HIV is that it is the precursor to AIDS which is Aquired immunodeficiency syndrome. AIDS is not a seperate virus, just a term to denote those HIV patients who have a T cell count (immune cells) lower than 200 or have developed an AIDS-defining infection. HIV is the virus that progresses into AIDS. So if you are HIV positive you already have an STD -- the worst there is. Someone with HIV should never have sex without letting their partner know and then using a condom. And, using a condom does not guarantee that the other person won't be infected. *Any* unprotected sex can infect the other person. Contact with most body fluids, including blood can also infect another person -- it does not have to be sexual contact. I believe tears are also able to pass on HIV. |
