How long can a HIV positive person survive without contracting AIDS? Can they lead a normal life?

If a HIV positive person leads a normal healthy life on the medicine Atripla, what is their survival rate?

Indefinitely. It all depends on whether the virus gets immobilized or whether it goes to town. Magic Johnson has had the virus for many years, but has not developed the disease. He's doing something right.

Nowadays, people who are infected with HIV can live a pretty normal lifespan - if they take their medications properly, have good nutrition, don't put themselves at risk of contracting another separate strain, and don't drink or do illicit drugs. The key is to take good care of the immune system.

For the virus to "activate," it can take many years...this is why a lot of people with HIV don't know they have it and pass it on.

On average without treatment, it takes 9 years for AIDS to develop from the initial infection with HIV (source 1.)

"Antiviral medicines against HIV that stop the virus from spreading in the body. You will not be cured and you are still contagious, but the treatment strengthens the immune system so that your risk of getting ill is reduced. It is still not known how long the effects of the treatment will last." (source 1)

The amount of time it takes for people to develop AIDS or to die from AIDS depends on each individual (source 2.)

Sorry, I don't know much else. But I do know there are people who lead long lives with HIV. The most important thing in my opinion is to have a positive outlook on life (of course this is for all people, not just people with HIV.) Don't let the small things get to you, always remember to smile, and whenever you meet a person who you think is an asshole, think about how every person in the world has at least one story to tell you that could make you cry. Everyone is beautiful, and if you focus on that, you will find that life is nothing short of amazing...every single second will mean so much more to you.

Being HIV positive does not mean that you have AIDS, but it does mean that you may develop AIDS. Many people are alive and live well above fifteen years or more after testing HIV positive.

There are many new treatments that help keep the disease under control, for example, antiretroviral drugs. If you learn by testing, you have a chance to slow or prevent some of the negative health consequences.

Given the right attitude and the right information, most people can live for a long time. Getting informed and taking charge of your health will help you make the best out of your situation. It helps to start learning more about the HIV disease and keep track of your immune system.

On average, without using anti-HIV therapy, most people remain well for about ten years before facing their first serious symptoms.I suggest you download the free guide at http://www.helpcure.com/hiv/
