Would you start dating someone who was HIV positive?

Would you ever consider dating someone who was HIV positive?? I met someone 6 months ago who I fell for the moment we met. We went on a few dates, had a great time, then he told me that he was HIV positive. I told him that i could not get into a relationship with him because of his situation.

Did i do the right thing?? I still really have feelings for him and i'm wondering if i made a mistake by turning him away. Serious answers only.

I would have gone for it. There are precautions that you can take. I think it is kind of prejudicial to blow him off because of his medical condition.

I THINK YOU DID THE SAFE THING BY GOING THE ROUTE YOU TOOK. IT'S HARD BUT THE TIMES WE LIVE IN, WHY TAKE A RISK THAT COULD POTENTIALLY KILL YOU. IF THAT PERSON TOLD YOU TO JUMP OFF OF A FREEWAY TO SHOW YOUR LOVE FOR THEM, YOU PROBLY WOULDN'T DO IT RIGHT? (HOPEFULLY) SO WHY WOULD YOU TAKE A RISK THAT MIGHT KILL YOU. BEING FREINDS WOULD BE A MUCH WISER CHOICE FOR YOU.

All depends... If I would look for "friendship" kind of relationship ...sure I would consider it. But if you are young and want family and children, and want to have healthy sexual life ... I would not consider it. It is very, very difficult road ahead. Being myself in many difficult life situations for years of my life ... I think it is good to be a little selfish. Good heath is the most precious gift. You are still in the beginning of this relationship. What is love? It is only you and your own perceptions.

You could have been friends with him. That person was honest enough to tell you something so intimate and private, and you just blew him off, because of it. Think about that for a minute. Flip a coin and find out the odds of someone telling you a personal and intimate secret about their life. Its very low. Anyway, I have had my share of diseases, but I dont turn my nose up to people. Just be his friend. Protect yourself I sure you know how to do that.

Did he happen to mention how he got it ?I'm just concerned because men usually get it from sex with other men or from drug use.Very rarely from a woman.So if he had a drug problem is that now taken care of?If it was from a man then that is another story and you probably did him a favor by breaking up with him.Many men feel they have to deny their sexuality.Whether to to please family or whatever.Please at least stay friends with him whatever his circumstances.Many people with AIDS/HIV feel very isolated and alone.It is a hard disease physically and mentally.
