Will HIV positive blood transfer through cut?

I was helping someone bandage up a cut and then I washed my hands. I noticed that I had a cut on my hand also. My cut was about an 1/8 of an inch think and about 80% healed. I do not think any got blood on the cut but still worried that if the person was HIV positive that it could have been transfered by the cut being around the blood. Is this a possibility?

HIV is a virus which transfers through the blood (unlike the flu virus which transfers through moisture droplets when e.g. talking or coughing).

If you are worried, then I suggest you get yourself tested in 6 weeks, there is no harm done in testing.

Do you know for sure that the person had HIV? E.g. are you a nurse working at a hospital and the patient claimed HIV+ on their entry form? If yes, then get tested for sure, the hospital will do it for free.

If you are not certain, then you may clam down, the amount of HIV positive people is relatively small compared to the total population. To find someone with HIV is somewhat hard actually, unless you go to e.g. a clinic etc.

Also if your cut is mostly healed, it will reduce the chances of someone else's blood being able to enter your body, as your body is "pressurized", pushing things out rather than allowing them in.

A common way to get HIV is through oral or anal sex without a condom where the receiving partner has a bleeding gum or cut in their mouth, and the other partner has lacerations on their genitalia possibly as a result of rough sex.

Possible. Not very likely.

Yes. Whenever there is blood to blood contact it is possible to spread HIV.

Yes, it goes from blood to blood, if you didn't get any on your hand you should be ok.

oh yes very much so possible

If the cut wasn't fully sealed and there was contact, it's a possibility. You should always wear gloves when working with someone else who may be bleeding if you don't know "where they've been."

Get tested if you're worried about this, for peace of mind.

It is very unlikely that you contracted the disease from the contact you had. However, to answer your question, it is possible to transmit HIV from blood to blood contact, however it'd have to be prolonged contact and/or more than a miliounce of blood.

Yes...an open cut on your hand could have been enough for an infection to occur.

yes it can transfer through a cut.
