Has the way that the HIV campaign been interpreted by people have an adverse affect on the campaign's intended

Intentions?
____

The campaign was to inform people that those with HIV are not to be feared, and that the people who have it can and should live in society just like anybody else. This is a good thing and it should be spread. However because of this campaign I think that some people have become lapsed in their protection and precaution in HIV prevention. They may rationalize that if it acceptable that a person with HIV can live a long and productive life with the disease why be worried about preventing, why be worried about contracting it?

Should the campaign be changed? What can be done to prevent people from having a lapsidasy (spelling) opinion about HIV? How can you obtain a balance of awareness and understanding?

As a man with HivI think those of us who have this needs to speak out and let people see what we go though as well as the joy we maintain even as we face potential death.

I haven't seen this campaign! Anyway i think from years ago there was a big 'scare tactic' campaign on HIV but had the effect of denial amongst people, whereas this new one aims to reduce stress of people living with HIV, obviously having this virus can lead to sever psychological issues. It is probably best to focus on (talking just about this campaign) displaying the facts about how it is with you for life and the general negative facts about it. Than emphasize that new drugs lower the virus level (well try to) to unreadable by blood test and slow down the process... BUT is still likely to lower life expectancy.

I think the best intervention in general to stop the spread is to create a scheme that teaches and helps people to talk about it with their partners e.g. how to ask partners to get tested (doing a dissertation on this!). With this magazine i brought recently it gave away a small stylish tin to carry around condoms in so you always have one on hand... i think that is a GREAT idea!
