Can I get HIV from an infected friend with a rash?

My friend has HIV and he's been taking medication for it. I don't know a whole lot about the disease but he's developed a rash from the medication and I gave him a hug while he had the rash (after he had seen his doctor about it). Can I get the rash or HIV from it? Not sure if it's contagious or not, least the rash wise.

Don't worry, you're in the clear. HIV is only transmitted through 5 bodily fluids : blood, semen, pre-semen, vaginal secretions, and breast milk. Since you weren't in direct contact with any of these fluids, rest assured--you didn't get infected. As far as the rash, if it was due to a reaction he's having from the medication, you shouldn't worry either. Unless he developed a rash from poison ivy which can be contagious, no need to worry. No, No Way! No How! although some people think HIV is easy to catch, the reality is it is not. If you have UNPROTECTED sex (vaginal, anal), share IV for drugs, then you are putting yourself at risk. HIV cannot be transmitted by the scenario that you described. It is impossible. There was no reported case of HIV based on the scenario that you described and you are not going to be the first one. Move on with your life and put this behind you.
