Could this be a symptom of HIV?

I don't know if I'm worrying too much but about 5 months ago I slept with a guy and we used protection. But yesterday I suddenly got really ill, I ached, was cold and my asthma was really bad. I had no energy at all. I went to the docs and he said it was a viral infection. Within 24 hours these symptoms have gone and my asthma is getting better. But I'm worried because I've read that these can be symptoms of HIV.
Can you tell me if I'm worrying about nothing or whether it is just a 24 hour bug?

ha ha my name is also zoe and i worried about exactly the same thing lol! i slept with a guy 6 months ago and used protection, but got shingles 6 weeks after! (i'm in my final year and had just had a hand in of my first project so i think this is more reasonable why!) i have heard that that is a symptome so am now paniking even though my friend who is a nurse says i'm in the lowest risk catogry! i have no idea... i think your going to be ok but if your too scared then maybe get a test done! (i dont want too either!) you have my exact sympthies though! good luck as it will eat you up if you think of it too long!

If you're worried, by all means take a test. It will set your mind at ease.

It would be highly unusual for symptoms of HIV to show up at that stage---it usually takes years for really obvious symptoms to show, and generally it's characterized by other things---

Noone can tell you that you're worried about nothing, or if it's actually a 24 hour bug, except a doctor who actually examines you.

HIV is a very slow process whereby your immune system brakes down. As time goes by your immune system becomes weaker and you become more susceptible to disease and to developing AIDS. It is highly unlikely that your this virus was related to having HIV as 5 months wouldn't be enough time for HIV to be effecting you immune system dramatically.

You say that you used protection. Presuming it was a condom and he was wearing it before he penetrated you it is extremely unlikely that you could have gotten HIV from having sex with this person. HIV can only be transferred through blood to blood contact.

With my knowledge of HIV, I would say that you are worrying about nothing. I still suggest that you see your doctor however, just so you can get tested and you can be at ease when your test comes back clear. You should not feel any shame in seeing your doctor, they deal with cases like this on a regular basis.

It's better if you go and get an HIV blood test, trust me you'll feel so much better once you know for sure.
Sometimes condoms can break, you never know...besides a lot of people don't use protection when giving/receiving oral sex.

No. it isent there are no signs of HIV
its just the 24hr bug
HIV takes ages to show it's syptoms it dosent happen that quick ....
so it was just the 24hr bug

take a pregnancy test. my asthma flared up out of the blue. I have a 4 year old child now.

I suggest you go take a test - no-one on here can tell you that.
