How long does it take for symptoms of HIV to happen?? And if you have sex with someone that has AIDS do you get AIDS or HIV that eventually turns to AIDS?

If a person is HIV+, but does not know it because they have never tested it can take up to 10-12 years before any signs at all. BUT when it come to infection, if a person become infected, the HIV does not lie dormant in your body, it multiplies rapidly. With that said it can take up to 3 month for the antibodies to show up on a HIV test. Usually someone will test HIV+ 90% of the time 30 days after infection, it up to 99.6% after 90 days ( 3 months) and a few take a little longer.

And a person would not get AIDS for a person that has AIDS, they would become HIV+. If a person is tested and knows their status and are HIV+ they can live for years and never have an AIDS diagnosis. I have friends who have been HIV+ for 25 years, but it still has not turned into AIDS.

the time HIV progresses to full blown AIDS depends on the patient. their treatment,their overall health.

if you have sex with someone who has HIV or AIDS you are at risk. the virus can sit dormant for some time in your system before it is detected.

you first get HIV then it progresses to AIDS. as the infected person gets sicker with symptoms that's when they classify it as AIDS.

to qualify for some treatments that medicaid will cover you must have full blown AIDS.
