IS IT TRUE THAT EARLY SYMPTOMS OF HIV CAN BE SEEN AFTER 2 TO 4 WEEKS?

YES.

Somewhere between 40-90% of people (more likely closer to 90%) will experience symptom(s) 2-4 weeks after being infected with HIV -- right around the time they begin to produce antibodies (seroconvert). This is called acute retroviral syndrome.

As it has been mentioned here already, the symptoms are usually mild and non-specific (they point to hundreds of possible causes, most benign), and are self limiting (they go away on their own). All of these factors make it difficult to make an HIV connection

(most doctors don't think about this when they see a patient with ARS symptoms....and most people don't get serious enough symptoms to even go to the doctor)

Possible symptoms:

Fever, rash possibly in combination with muscle aches, sore throat, oral/genital ulcers, swollen lymph nodes, fatigue, headache, weight loss, diarrhea, vomiting etc. (you don't get all of these symptoms.....fever and rash are two of the most common

Check out this video by an HIV specialist entitled:
Did I just Contract HIV? Early Symptoms of Acute HIV Infection....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_94fmY2K...

Be sure and watch the whole thing as she mentions some very critical information throughout.

It is true that the early symptoms of HIV could appear a few weeks after the exposure and last for a few weeks BUT most people do not show up any symptom and usually symptoms are not indactor for HIV infection.

So to summarize, symptoms mean nothing. The only way to know if you are infected is to get tested. You cannot rely on the symptoms as they might be related to other medical conditions and most of the time they are.

Yes, it's called Acute HIV Infection. Thing is it's not easily disernable as HIV.
----
During this period (usually 2-4 weeks post-exposure) most individuals (80 to 90%) develop influenza or mononucleosis-like symptoms, most commonly fever, lymphadenopathy, pharyngitis, generalized rash of maculopapular[1] type, myalgia, malaise, mouth and esophagal sores, and may also include, but less commonly, headache, nausea and vomiting, enlarged liver/spleen, weight loss, thrush, and neurological symptoms. Infected individuals may experience all, some, or none of these symptoms. The duration of symptoms varies, averaging 28 days and usually lasting at least a week.[2] In some very rare cases, about 10 patients from 1989 to date[3], a bilateral facial palsy has been associated with acute HIV-1 infection.

Because of the nonspecific nature of these symptoms, they are often not recognized as signs of HIV infection.

Many people have no symptoms of HIV until years later, when the immune system has been seriously damaged. Some people do have flu-like symptoms, but even they may not show up until weeks or months after initial infection, and they would not be recognizable as HIV.

No that is not true.

HIV is silent for a long time until the virus overwelms the immune system. Then and only then do you start to get noticably sick.

If you are basing your health on this "rumor" then you are taking a huge risk. People who are sexually active need to be tested regularly and use condoms at all times.

I have one simple rule of thumb and this is as follows:
If you have lost more than 10% of your body weight in less than 10 days, you are looking at something serious. Now although this is necessarily HIV related, one should get tested asap to determine that.
