Question about HIV?????????

Ok i had mono about 2 years ago and i had lumps in my neck which are still there there just not swelled as bad. I was reading an article about HIV and read a symptom was the swelling. This is the only sympton i show. Is there a possiblility that i may have HIV? i have only had intercourse with one girl?

Those "lumps" in your neck are swollen lymph nodes - a sign that your immune system is working hard. Any infection will cause lymphadenopathy (swollen lymph nodes) - - just any little sniffle or a scratch on your scalp can cause the nodes in your neck to swell up and get a little tender.

Mono can take a few months for your body to clear... but after 2 years it's unlikely that the mono is still the issue. It's more likely that the "lumps" come and go. You're more likely to notice them when they're a bit swollen and sore because you're getting a cold or something... that sort of thing.

As for HIV - while you can get it from a single sexual contact, I'd REALLY DOUBT that's the case here. Breathe easy.

If you really want to set your mind at ease, get tested. It's a simple blood test and it's free and anonymous if you do it at a free "STD clinic."

Yes, the test has changed since 2000... detection is much more effective now, so you dont have to wait 6 months. (However, if one knows he's been exposed - needle stick for healthcare providers, informed by a sexual partner that she's HIV+, etc) standard protocol is to re-test at 6 months, 1 year and 2 years post exposure.

You have to wait 6 months after relations/exposure for the antibodies to show up on test. (unless that has changed since the year 2000) (a quicker test?)
protection pays off & like the other members said - it takes one person-one time.

You can get it by only have sex with one person. Just get a blood test and you can find out real quick.

There's always a possibility if you've had unsafe sex, even if it's just been with one girl.

It's probably not HIV, but the only way to know for sure is to have the blood test.

get tested.
