You don't...unless they tell you. Symptoms are most often not noticeable, even when AIDS takes over. HIV+ people are the ones who are infected with the virus. Someone who has AIDS has at least two diagnosable diseases that are caused by the virus. Even when someone is dying of AIDS, people do not often see symptoms. They often look tired, but nothing more. My friend's husband was a nurse and was infected on the job with HIV. We didn't know he was infected for over twelve years. He looked normal. If you are anticipating entering a relationship, the only way you will know is if you are both tested.
