Info on HIV/ AIDS? (correct on tv?)?

First off- I DO NOT HAVE HIV/AIDS!
I don't know anyone that does either.
I am not worried that I may have it.
I don't.

I was just thinking last night about an episode of CSI I saw (I know, tv!) and this guy got sprayed by HIV infected blood in his eyes. He ended up getting caught by the CSI people because he started showing symptoms in what seemed like 2 weeks maximum.

I'm wondering, do those symptoms show up that quickly? Or are the general public vastly mislead from this on tv? Any info would be great. My curiosity is getting the best of me :)

Many people have no early symptoms at all. Others have mild ones that they don't seek treatment for or if they do seek treatment it is easily mistaken for a large number of other illnesses. If I remember the episode, they started asking him about vague symptoms anyone who's been in a smoky room might have and basically scared him into being tested. It would be very unlikely that a doctor would suspect HIV after such a short illness unless he knew the person had been exposed or had high risk factors.

It is possible to get HIV from infected blood getting in the eye, although I don't think it's common.

More than half of people who get infected with HIV get an illness called acute retroviral syndrome about 2 to 4 weeks after infection. This is a short lived but sometimes severe flu-like illness, often accompanied by a rash, swollen glands, drenching night sweats and sometimes evidence of immune suppression such as severe thrush infections. It usually gets better after a week or two, and people with HIV don't usually get any further symptoms till some years later.

depends on there body some people could show symptoms that early other noth until years later
