HIV not the cause of AIDS.much of contradictions. What will happen if HIV patient(my friend) stops taking AZT?

After my friend started taking AZT (last 6 months) his condition is declining.I came to read about Dr.Duesberg's articles regarding the HIV and AIDS.My friend was very enthusiastic before he started his medication.he had no symptoms and I wonder why did doctor suggest him drug in this early stage.anyway CD+4 counts are only 250 after 6 months .now the drug seems to give no effect .So he is planning to discontinue as the cost is too high.I want to know what would be the its after effects if he discontinues and get back to a nourishing diet with lots of antioxidants which will inhibit Oxidative stress and there by Inactivating NF kappa B -decreasing the virus titer and increasing virus latency there by life expectency

Let's see, you have 99.9% of the scientific and medical community that says that HIV is the infectious virus that causes AIDS, and then you have Dr. Duesberg and his followers. If you are a rational, logical person, which side do you believe?

I had followers of this quack tell me in 1995 that protease inhibitors would kill me within 6 months and I had to be insane to take them (I was on a clinical trial, one of the first people to get them). I now mark my life from the time I started taking them, since my health has improved 1000%, I am no longer mere inches from dying, and have even gone back to work. I am no longer 50 lbs underweight and can now do just about everything that HIV- people can do. I thank God every day for medical advances and drug developers, since I am alive due to them.

Please listen to the real doctors and stop spreading hogwash and misinformation if you value the life of your friend.

Good luck.

p.s. I did some "alternative therapies" as well, like acupuncture, but always trusted my doctors and the HIV drugs. I am still here, and thriving, and most of my friends who went the "alternative" route alone aren't here any more.

Suicidal!

Do you really think this is the proper forum for such a question? Are you actually going to listen to a bunch of people that sit online all day and answer questions about things they know nothing about?

Not all AIDS drugs work for all patients. That is why some patients decline and die, even in America and other developed countries.

However, there are now a number of choices in AIDS drugs. Your friend should ask to consult with another doctor to see if some combination of different drugs will work better for him. He must NOT stop taking his medicine, however. If he does, he will probably get worse more rapidly than ever.

AIDS is a horrible disease, despite all the advances we have made in fighting it. But there are specialists out there who can still offer hope. Help your friend get to one.

As to going to alternative medicines, ask yourself this: There are lots and lots of these supposed "cures" out there. How many LONG-TERM survivors are there who have used these alternatives? The answer is *none.* There is nothing wrong with your friend using these other treatments in combination with regular AIDS medicines. They can form good complementary care. But giving up medicines that have been proven to work for those that have not? That is literally suicide.

Good luck!! Your friend is very fortunate to have a caring companion in you.

The drugs kill the patients. I knew a man who had AIDS for 20 years and refused the drugs. He was one of the first cases. He did pretty well and was not really ill until the last 2 years. Now they start newly diagnosed people off on these killer drugs. When your friend stops taking these drugs he needs to eat a diet high in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains and no meat, just fish. Little dairy and egg. Get what exercise he can tolerate like walking a bit. Get enough sleep. Keep a good attitude. And he could take a couple of herbs such as eleuthero, astragalus or ashwagandha to strengthen his immune system. His immune system needs to be strengthened not assaulted.

I don't know, tough question.
I am an acupuncture and herbal medicine student near graduation. I have heard all of the arguements and don't know what to think.
I do know of patients who respond significantly to particular chinese herbs, acupuncture, and moxabustion.
Astragalus is one of the most well known of these herbs. It's inexpensive, easy to get, and it works.
Have your friend see an acupuncturist. They can customize an herbal prescription for the patient. And they can provide acu/moxa therapy that has been clinically proven to increase WBC count. Have the therapist do rice grain moxa at Stomach 36 and L.I. 10, or whatever they've seen to be effective.

Skeptical?... try it. You'll see. It can do no harm and it might save his life.
If I knew the city you are in perhaps I could give a referral.

AZT-azidothymine is only the drug which can extend lifespam but surely the disease AIDS has no medicine . I am sorry for your friend

It takes about two weeks for the virus to infect the initial cells. After this there appears to be nothing much happening when in fact much is happening inside the body. Don't listen to people who know nothing.
Some of the drugs taken to combat HIV have very bad side effects.
" My Hypothesis " is to use peppermint oil lozenges to slow the immune response. Ask the top AIDS researcher in the world if it can work against HIV.
