HIV and AIDS?

so what exactly are HIV and AIDS? and what are the symptoms of it?

HIV is the "Human ImmunoDeficiency Virus". AIDS or "Acquired ImmunoDeficiency Syndrome" the name for the disease the virus causes.

The virus works by attacking your white blood cells, which normally fend off diseases in the body. People who have advanced stages of AIDS generally die from some secondary infection. Even something as simple as a cold can be deadly when one's immune system isn't working properly.

Early symptoms are hard to detect and may go unnoticed (and also may indicate other problems than HIV infection).

Some of them are weight loss, sweating, fever, prolonged diarrhea, fatigue, malaise (overall discomfort).

Tests for HIV infection look for the antibodies your body produces to the virus, and these tests usually aren't reliable earlier than three months after the infection occurred, and are extremely reliable six months or more afterward.

If you think you may be infected with HIV it's important to be tested multiple times to make sure, especially if you come up positive.

HIV is the virus which leads to AIDS. AIDS is Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, and it describes a collection of conditions that an HIV patient may experience. Please see the link for more information, symptoms, etc.

Almost right T R. All I would add is that HIV may lead to AIDS (it usually does eventually) but there are examples of HIV positive people not developing AIDS (so far).
