If one does not feel flu like symptoms within the next 3 months after intercourse, can HIV be ruled out ?

I think that you are playing Russian Roulette with your life and major mind games with yourself by playing a 3 month waiting game. Why not forego the question on YA and get a series of HIV tests on a schedule as recommended by your physician. If you are not comfortable going to your family physician, contact your local public health clinic or Planned Parenthood. Please get checked out, HIV is nothing to mess with.

no, HIV does not cause flu...

NO! Many people do not develop the acute symptoms of HIV infection (such as the flu-like symptoms). The only way to rule out HIV is by getting tested. Check the CDC website for great information on symptoms and testing. http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/resources/qa/qa5....

Absolutely not.

Scientific studies have shown that somewhere between 40-90% of people with HIV may experience "acute retroviral syndrome" within 3 months (usually within 2-4 weeks) of being infected. Symptoms include rash and/or fever possibly in combination with other flu/mono-like symptoms.

The symptoms are often so mild that they are missed. And again, not everyone experiences them.

The only way to know for sure is to get tested.

There is an excellent video on the topic by an HIV specialist entitled: Why EVERY Person Should Be Tested for HIV by the Doctor. It can be viewed here:

Hope this helps
