They can seem flu-like. But I would get tested. because there is no other way of knowing.

This could be a number of things. I think you should just go to the doctor, so you'll know for sure. Good luck!

The virus attacks a particular group of the body's white blood cells and persists for a long time in these cells, it destroys the cells that have the ability to fight off infections, and these infections are frequently fatal. The symptoms of HIV include:Persistant fatigue, unexplained fever, drenching night sweats, unexplained weight loss, swollen glands, persistant diarreah and dry cough. However, it can take many years before any of these symptoms appear.

The symptoms described above are signs of advanced HIV disease and are SOMETIMES the first symptoms that an HIV positive patient experiences (OR remembers experiencing).

There are early symptoms of HIV infection that between 50-90% of people do experience. However, these symptoms are often mild and are non-specific (they don't only point to HIV, they point to hundreds of different diagnoses).

These early symptoms are often experienced anywhere from 2-4 weeks after exposure/infection (average) but it may be a few months after exposure. Fever and / or rash, possibly in combination with:
sore throat, malaise, loss of appetite, weight loss, mouth sores, joint pain, muscle pain, swollen lymph nodes, diarrhea, fatigue, night sweats, nausea/vomiting, headache, genital sores.

Having these symptoms does not mean you have HIV, not experiencing them doesn't mean you don't have HIV ---- not everyone experiences them.

The symptoms are self-limiting, meaning they go away on their own in the vast majority of cases. Most people don't even go to their doctor, and those that do are often misdiagnosed.

So, if you experience some of the above and you think that there is even the SMALLEST chance that you may have been exposed in the recent past (even if you "know" the status of your sex/drug use partner) then go and ask for a test. Explain to the doctor your symptoms and say that you may have been exposed. We need to start testing and geting diagnosed as early as possible to help stop the spread of HIV!!

So, HIV testing needs to be an annual or semi annual thing, not just when you think you need it.

Check out the following video by an HIV specialist talking about " Did I Just Contract HIV? Symptoms of Primary HIV infection"

There are none really.I had unsafe sex so I got tested.7 yrs later I would know by my energy level and bouts of depression.

Why wait for the symptoms? If you suspect yourself to have contracted HIV, then submit yourself for a diagnostic exams, either ELIZA or Western blot tests.
