HIV - confusion over early symptoms time frame?

Hi,

There's so many varying answers to this on the net, but how long after a hiv risk episode can you expect to see early symptoms? Some web sites say a few days, others 2 to 4 weeks. Are all of these possible?

Additionally - will the early symptoms go away with standard anti-bacterial drugs or does the early stage of infection (pains, headaches, lymph node swelling etc.) run its course or resume even if you are prescribed something for 'the flu' ?

Thanks

it has to do with how up your immune system is......some show even much later.....yes all are possible.......

im sure it takes longer than a few days

The primary or seroconversion illness usually starts around week 4 - 8 in most people some a little earlier some slightly later, but not everybody has seroconversion illness about twenty percent have no symptoms at all. you can't diagnose from symptoms you can only diagnose from a blood test. I f you are worried, that you may have contracted HIV then go for a blood test, Symptoms may simply be another infection i.e. flu or mono
but you need to wait at least six weeks after last exposure to get a 90+% accurate result and 12 weeks for a 100%
Hope that's clear. Another bit of advice it's not a good idea to search the web for a definite answer.

oh man you got your facts all wrong!!! its way more complicated that that, first of all it depends on the original physical state of the individual, secondly and more importantly it depends on the strain of the virus contracted there are 13 different strains of the virus some cause full blown AIDS in as little as 6months while others take as long as 10years to cause the person to develop AIDS. Okay the biggest misconception that you have is that AIDS is not curable by antibiotics, antibiotics works on bacteria, protists basically any single celled organism, AIDS/HIV is a virus totally different, apples and oranges. As far as symptoms goes, HIV is virtually symptom less, AIDS is an obvious depletion of the immune system.
