Aside from getting tested regularly, are there any noticable symptoms of HIV?

I get tested regularly, but I was just curious how people come to find out they're HIV positive without testing. Are there common symptoms?

No. There are no outward, easily visible symptoms specific to HIV. The only way to know if you have HIV is through a test (blood or otherwise) which specifically tests for HIV.

There have been reports of severe flu-like symptoms shortly after seroconversion (that is, contracting HIV) but those symptoms can not be relied upon for a diagnosis. Chances are, if you have flu-like symptoms, you have the flu.

Also, some people have said that they "knew" the moment they contracted HIV. But that's highly subjective and shouldn't be relied upon at all...
