Would you have hiv symptoms after 4 years? |
hi need to know something to calm my friends mind. about 4 years ago she had unprotected sex with this guy she just met after drinking heavily. he penetrated her unprotected and was in for about 10 mins then he put on a condom when he was ready to orgasm.well its been on her mind all this time but is terrified to go to dr's and hasn't slept with anyone since just in case. although im not an expert i told her that she would have some kind of symptoms after 4 years like weight loss or something she is pefectly healthy never gets colds and hasn't had a flu in 6 years and is on the chubby side. could anybody let me know. thanks The best thing to do is to go to a Lab or to a community center to have an ELISA test done. She doesn't have to go to a Dr. for this. There are some community centers or hospitals where they even do it for free. This will be the only way that your friend's gonna come out of her anguish; from my part, to tell you otherwise, would be mere speculation; there are people who don't show any symptoms of AIDS even past ten years or more; but an HIV test can come out positive as much as 3 to 4 months after exposure to the virus. It's called "the window period". hiv can lie dormant in the body for 10 or more years with no symptoms, she needs to get tested The latency period for HIV is anywhere from 6-10 years. Unfortunatley it is possible and most likley that a person will begin to show signs and symptoms 4+ years later. If she is worried, then she should go get tested. There are amazing new therapies for HIV+ people, but it is essential to begin treatment as soon as possible. You can tell if you have the viral antibodies within 6 mo usually so have her get an anonymous test at a clinic and she'll know in a couple days. It's just a mouth swab now, no blood taking and free. The HIV virus can lay dormant for years, so that is no indication of infection. If she doesn't want to go to the doctor to get tested there are home tests that you can order online and send in the results, totallly anonomous. But has she not had an annual exam in 4 years? HIV testing is something that they offer to do along with all STD's when you get your pap. That is the best time to do it, every year. she shld get tested. that will put her mind at ease. |
