Symptoms of HIV Positive?

How many days or weeks after being infected does a person begin to show symptoms of being HIV positive? What are the symptoms of HIV?

About three weeks to six weeks after exposure there could be some presistent cold-flue symptoms, night sweats, east infection that wouldnt go away, slight but consistent fever, swolen lymph glands/nodes especially those on the neck, long term diarea, fatigue, weight loss, loss of apetite, cold sores.

After this is gone, there might be nothing for years and usually people stay healthy for a few years after becoming hiv poz. The few weeks after exposure simptoms show because that is when the viral load of the hiv virus in the blood is the highest.

However, don't be mistaken that it will show on a test then.

The Elisa test that tests HIV antibodies present in the blood cant detect them for about 4 weeks the least and 6 months the most. It takes some time until antibodies are formed thus there is a need for a 6 months window from exposure to taking the test in order for the results to be conclusive.

I hope this helps!

Best of luck to ya!

Not days or weeks. Years or decades.

You don't have symptoms of HIV until you get AIDS and your immune system stops working.

Between 3 and 6 weeks most people who are infected will experience flu like symptoms -- Sore throat and muscles, fatigue, fever, night sweats. Durring that time the person is acutally fighting the HIV infection. Once those go away a person wont experience anything for quite some time. It depends on the person, but it is usually years before any symptoms show up, or never show up.

If it's just the HIV virus, nothing will show up for at least a year- and that's only if you get tested. You don't really show symptoms for HIV. It does lead to AIDS and that's when you start seeing signs.

It's not like getting the flu hun... it's a way bigger thing than the flu. If you think you have this, go get tested! Planned Parenthood and free clinics like that will do free testing. It's way too important, not just to you but to any future partners you will ever have again. You gotta be responsible.

Good luck hun.

Usually, an immediate but transient mild illness follows the infection at the time of 1st contact. it is often very mild, nos-specific with malaise, fever, weakness and at times a rash.

After this stage, the person 'sero-converts' and becomes HIV positive but usually they have no symptoms or signs of disease at this stage. this phase may last for months to years depending on the persons previous state of health, nutrition and viral load and HIV strain/ Type.

Gradually but surely often after about 5 - 10 years, the person begins to show progressive weigth loss, 'unusual infections' eg. candida, mild anaemia, other infections and malignancies (Tumours). This stage can be delayed and protracted with Anti-retrovial drugs (ARVs)

After first having been in contact with a HIV positive persons blood (thru either accidently/inadvertently perhaps coming in contact with blood (and it doesnt take much blood) or thru contact with a needle used by HIV users, or virtually anything that may have traces of the persons blood, (including sexual contact, but not necessarily) an immediate blood test will NOT show the signs of HIV.
People in this category must WAIT 3 months, at least, until a blood test can determine any result.
..
The Sympthoms of HIV may NOT be immediate, such as Flu like sympthoms, cold symptons, tireness etc. the list can go on, although there are tests to determine the Immune systems defence. Some who might become infected may show the signs mentioned above within a few weeks, but this is dificult to determine IF the Symptoms are actually related to the HIV.
HIV positive perons may NOT necessarily show any sympthoms for months/years, and I believe there are drugs to take to assist.
In some cases HIV infected, may never show the actual positive degrees of this infection, than can lead to a critical stage. HIV should not be IMMEDIATELY thought of as AIDS.
HIV infections, left untreated can lead to AIDS as the bodys defence mechanism breaks down.
