How soon do hiv symptoms occur?

can hiv symptoms occur after 5 months after exposure, or if you havnt had any kind of symptoms before a period of this time, would you get symptoms later ?

You may never show any symptoms at all. My mom's friend is in his late 50's. He has tested positive for HIV for over 20 years and shows ZERO symptoms. The doctors say he is unlikely to ever show any. My friend, on the other hand, was 27. He tested positive when he was 21 and he just died last year.

It could go either way. Go get yourself tested. I get tested every single year no matter what. I've been married for three years and I STILL get tested anyway. It's the responsible thing to do.

Some people have brief, flu-like symptoms as they have an early immune reaction to the infection, but some have no symptoms after exposure.

People infected with HIV can be asymptomatic (no symptoms) for 8 or 9 years. By the time they show symptoms, the immune system is severely damaged.

If you believe you may have been exposed to HIV, the only way to know is to get tested.
