HOW LONG Symptoms hiv?

HOW LONG CAN HIV SYMPTOMS BE DORMANT ?

Hi there,

There are no "symptoms" of HIV per se. In the period immediately after infection has taken place there aren't any specific symptoms. Within two to four weeks after exposure to HIV, a person might have flu-like symptoms such as fever, swollen glands, muscle aches, diarrhea, fatigue or rash. In rare instances they may occur within a few days after the exposure has taken place.

These symptoms usually go away after a week or two. Often, if they occur at all, they're so mild they're hardly noticeable, although for some people they are severe enough to warrant calling a doctor.

If left untreated, HIV can take up to 10 years for the disease to progress from a person being diagnosed as HIV+ to full blown AIDS. AIDS does not have any specific "symptoms" either. A person who has AIDS more times than nought has aquired an Opportunistic Infection. AIDS is a condition caused by a virus called HIV. This virus attacks the immune system, the body's "security force" that fights off infections. When the immune system breaks down, you lose this protection and can develop many serious, often deadly infections and cancers. These are called "opportunistic infections (OIs)" because they take advantage of the body's weakened defenses. You have heard it said that someone "died of AIDS." This is not entirely accurate, since it is the opportunistic infections that cause death. AIDS is the condition that lets the OIs take hold and it is these OIs which would be associated with any "symptom" the person is experienceing.

Hope this helps.

Cheers.

up to 10 years.

I heard they can take up to 10 years to surface.I knew a lady that had it for over 13 years and didnt know it she is now gone but even at this time you couldnt tell.People with HIV die of pneumonia not HIV or AIDS.

HIV symptoms can remain undetected usually for 6 - 8 years. It may be even longer say up to 15 years or even less in case of children (2 - 3 years) Continuous and repeated exposure (of HIV) can reduce this period of dormancy. Once the symptoms develop we do not call it HIV positive (only) any more. It shows the onset of AIDS or AIDS Related complex.
