Acute hiv symptoms?

after unprotected sex with a girl from a hostel in europe i started to have this weird tired feeling. This continued and about 10 days later I developed diarrhea, loss of appetite (basically i felt that if i ate i would throw up, so that could be considered nausea but i did never throw up, possibly because i never ate), tired still, and swollen lymph nodes (or im just paranoid, but i do feel pea sized bumps in my groin area). I do not have a rash, or a sore throat. Its been about 12 more days and i have mostly regained my appetite but still have the watery diarrhea. I do not have abdominal pains or anything. I am pretty paraniod but with no sore throat or rash i dont know. i have lost about 7 pounds as well. what worried me so much is when searching persistent diarrea all of this hiv things popped up. my question is do you think these are legitimate symptoms to be paranoid of hiv. either way diarrhea for 2 weeks cannot be good. what could i have, i know i need to see a doctor

It sounds to me that you have a case of Montezuma's Revenge...very common when you go to a foreign country and your body is not accustomed to different methods of food preparation.

Even if you contracted HIV, you would not get sick so quickly unless your immune system was severly impaired (even that is unlikely).

I don't think I really need to explain Montezuma's Revenge but I will in case you don't know what it is...basically, it's the runs.

You don't say if you live in Europe or if you are an American (or whatever) who was on vacation. Because of the dehydration that can result from MR, I advise you to see a doctor. When you get back home, I also suggest you get tested for all STDs, including HIV. You should know better than to have unprotected sex. I hope you learn from this.

EMT

gonorrhea. I read some info on this on the net.

It could be paranoia coupled with something else. From what I have read on HIV, I don't think the symptoms presents themselves so early. Nothing beats being sure though so go get some test done. If it is negative your mind will be at rest and if it is positive (I hope not) then you will be able to start on ARV drugs early and have longer life.

Good Luck

not sure about hiv symptoms but having diarrhea for two weeks is not good, you need to get a doctors appt soon, also be sure to eat foods high in pottasuim, bake potatoe.banana.orange juice .celrey.etc

Symptoms of acute HIV infection or seroconversion reaction usually appear two weeks to a month after infection. Not everyone experiences such symptoms, many have no symptoms at all. The reaction usually consists of mild to moderate flu like symptoms with a upper body rash (on the trunk). Fever achiness mild malaise might be present. While your symptoms do NOT sound like an HIV seroconversion reaction (more like a travellers diarrhea/stomach bug), I strongly encourage you to get tested for HIV/STD's, just because of the unprotected sex. You might want to have your doctor check for mononucleosis also. Diarrhea is definitely not a symptom of early HIV infection but the fact that you have had it for more than a few days and have lost significant amount of weight warrants a doctors visit.

all i can tell you is that it's NOT hiv, symptoms don't appear that early, acute retroviral symptoms usually occur at 4 weeks, i agree with the gentleman above me, it's possibly ghonorrhea, also keep in mind that you were in a different country, the food and environment is different, which can also cause you to get sick, but next time, do yourself a favor and use a condom, you shouldn't be having unprotected sex in the first place.

keep this in mind, when you think about it, ANYTHING can be a symptom of HIV, i've read that a symptom can be weight loss, swollen lymph glands, flu like symptoms, and for some reason i've heard impotence can be a symptom of HIV, which find completely ridiculous. however i've read that HIV ARS are extremely intense, enough to put you in the hospital.

Acute Retroviral Syndrome (early symptoms of HIVinfection) occurs in probably about 90% of people with HIV*, though most do not remember it as the symptoms can be mild and non-specific.

ARS usually occurs anywhere from 2-4 weeks after becomming infected. It usually resolves on its own lasting about 1-2 weeks (but may last several months)

The spectrum of symptoms may include an acute mononucelosis-like illness, fever, and skin rash.
Symptom/Frequency:

Fever/80%

Muscle or joint aches,rash,swollen lymph nodes,sore throat,fatigue // 40-80%

Oral and or genital ulcers, >5kg weight loss, nausea, vomitting, or diarrhea // 10-40%

Meningoencephalitis or aseptic meningitis may occur

Less commonly, AIDS-defining illnesses such as Pneumocystis jirovecii (formerly carinii) pneumonia or oroesophageal candidiasis (thrush in the mouth and esophagus) may occur in the acute stage.

IT NEVER HURTS TO GET TESTED FOR HIV REGARDLESS OF SYMPTOMS!!!!! As most people don't remember experiencing ARS and are symptom free for 10 years or so.

u should go to the doctors asap. even if you get tested you'll pobably come up negative for hiv because it takes a couple of months to be diagnosed. you will have to come back again and get tested.

good luck
