Average HIv window period? |
What is the average hiv window period??I had a test done at 11 weeks how accurate is this test and should i go back after 12 weeks? The vast majority of HIV-positive folks will have detectable levels of anti-HIV antibody in their blood within four to six weeks. Some folks take a bit longer for their immune response to kick in. For this reason, the published guidelines state that HIV antibody tests taken prior to the three-month mark are not definitive or conclusive. It can take around 3 months to show up, normally. They call it the "window period" because your body is in the process of forming the antibodies still, which is what the test usually looks for. Although, it isn't too common it can take up to 6 months for these antibodies to show. Just to be safe get checked for HIV again after the full six months of possible exposure. |
