HIV. i had a sexual ecounter last week with a condom fully proteced and found out yesterday this person was HIV + we had no kissing just my penis in her vagina with condom. How long should i take till i get tested if i got sort of disease

Condoms are highly effective in preventing the transmission of HIV; however, there's nothing aside from abstinence that will provide 100% protection. But I agree with you - it's never a bad idea to get tested. The ELISA screen (what most doctors perform) looks for antibodies against HIV. Since your body won't have enough antibodies to register well on an ELISA until between two to four weeks after exposure, you need to wait at least two weeks before you get tested. If that test is negative, then you'll need to get re-tested about three months after that. If the second test is negative, then you can rest assured that you're HIV-negative. However, according to studies done in the mid-to-late 1990's, latex and PVC condoms offer a greater-than 99.5% protection rate against HIV transmission in men who have sex with men. The protection rate of condoms in the female-to-male route of transmission is even greater than 99.5%. So your actual risk of contracting HIV from this encounter is significantly less than 0.05%. Good luck.

I know somethings here but not by choice, first don't panic. I lived with a man who had HIV for 8 years and he or I never knew. The very first signs are a sore throat and swollen glands and that happens within a week or two , a lot of people don't know that. They just brush it off as having a cold. I would get tested after 2 months. There is a period that it won't show up until then. You really have to be more careful who you are having sex with. If you had frenched kissed there's more of a chance of contacting it. You had to touch her fluid when you took off the condom. When someone starts getting the first signs of HIV, it can take up to 8 years. They have great drugs now that you can live many years after those 8. My boyfriend died of it but luckily I didn't get it, and who said , there wasn't a GOD? I wish you all the luck and don't worry to much, just be more careful please.

It is best to wait 3-6 months after a risky situation to take an HIV test. This is because it takes some time for it to show up in your blood. Taking it any sooner may result in an inaccurate test result. So 3 months at the very least. But preferably 6 months.

Good thing you were wearing a condom. This significantly reduces your chances. You most likely didn't catch it, but it's better safe than sorry.

Good luck! :)
