Does my blood get checked for HIV if I had surgery?

I had unprotected sex with a ex partner four years ago. But he never came in me. Well I didn't start to worry about anything until recently. I mean seeing MTV and all these ads just got me thinking what if. THe thing is I'm married now and just had a baby. My question is well I had a DNC done. They took some blood to test and I believe they asked if it was ok to test for all sorts of things. Do they test for HIV? Honestly I was so nervous about the Dnc I don't remember. I also had a c-section and my baby is healthy. Just wondering if they test for HIV when they get all this blood from you. It's scary because someone told me it can take years before you have symptons of Hiv. I want to know before I go get tested. THanks

forgot to mention had my Dnc two years ago and baby last year.

No, not unless you authorize it. In order to get your blood checked for HIV you would have to sign a consent form specifically for a HIV test. At least that is how it wourks at every hospital I have worked at. If you have doubts you should get checked while you are in the hospital.

Because that man didn't "***" in you does not exclude you from contrating it if he had it. Body fluids could have still been exchanged(see sex for dummies book...great read!) If you "just" had a baby, 9 times outta 10 an HIV test was already given as a part of your first round of test when you discovered you were pregnant. Stay in the know and get tested if you have any concerns. ANNOUNCEMENT: HIV test has to be agreed on by the patient unless there are special circumstances.

Yes, they always check

I don't think it's standard procedure to check for that, but they do check for syphillis when you have a baby.

The best way is to go to the hospital and ask for a copy of your medical records or just a copy of your lab results

If you did have a test and it was positive, the doctor would be required to council you and any partners. I think it might also be required to council people even if a test is negative but I'm not 100% sure.
