Could she have hiv/aids? |
I know this is a weird question, but I have this friend. SHe is 25 and she has unprotected sex fairly often with random guys. I've told her time and time again to use protection, but I know she doesnt. About last year, she started getting a sting of STI's (sexually transmitted infections). She went to get STD tests and everything. They treated her STI but it comes back a lot. THe past year she has also lost weight (about 25 lbs) without trying. She also had a horrendous staph infection on her face that so far has come back twice. I didnt think it could be HIV/AIDS until she told me she never called to get the results of her HIV test. She thought that they would call her if there was an issue. I havent told her yet that I dont think this is true (am i right? dont YOU have to call for that info?) I'm afraid for her, am I right to be concerned? SHould I tell her? I know, I agree with everyone. It has always made me sick that she has unprotected sex but now even moreso because she could be risking the lives of others. The reason it is weird for me to confront her is because we really arent close anymore (in part due to the fact that she is so careless with her life). Yes, she could. As far as who should call who, it depends upon what instructions she left for obtaining test results. Because there are so many privacy issues/laws today related to healthcare, if she said she would call for results, they may not call her. I'm not 100% sure on this, but I believe the laws of the particular state may come into play with regard to contacting for test results. However, if the test she got was very long ago (more than 3 months if she's that sexually active with no protection) I would say she needs to start again and go get tested for EVERYTHING they will test her for. She needs to protect herself if she's going to continue this lifestyle and make sure she is honest with anyone she's sleeping with. The "staph" on her face makes me wonder if she might have herpes. Was this sore close to her mouth? Did she get it treated by a physician or just let it "run it's course?" Who said it was "staph?" She's definitely playing russian roulette!! yes FACIAL SORES ARE A SIGN OF A SERIOUS DEFICIENCY IN HER INMUNE SYSTEM. (ALSO ONE OF THE SIGNS OF FULL BLOWN AIDS). IF SHE GOT THE RESULTS SHE WOULD GET A CALL TO GO AND GET THEM BUT NOT THE ACTUAL RESULTS THEMSELVES. DOCTORS ARE REQUIRED BY LAW TO REPORT A POSITIVE RESULT TO THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH. SHE IS NOT ONLY RISKING HERSELF BUT PUTTING OTHERS AT RISK. THAT IS NOT ONLY IRRESPONSIBLE BUT SH*TTY AS WELL. Wow. She really needs some help. If she is having infections on her face, she has more problems than you think. Is she in to drugs as well? You are right to be concerned. She is probably very scared as well. She needs to be tested, and needs support to get her well. |
